The Des Moines Register once described Danny Homan as “a blunt, insistent advocate for workers,” and anyone who knows him would likely agree. He began his public employee career in 1984 with the Iowa Department of Corrections as a Residential Advisor in Sioux City. He joined AFSCME as a Political Organizer in 1987, then became a Union Representative from 1988 until 2005. In 2005, Danny was elected as President of AFSCME Council 61 and recently celebrated his 12th anniversary in the role. Since 2006, he has served as an AFSCME International Vice President, where he helps lead the 1.6 million-member-strong Union. In the wake of union-busting political attacks, Danny has led AFSCME Council 61 with determination and resilience. His tenure as President has been marked with many successful fights for working men and women. He proudly served his country from 1971-1973 in the United States Army. Danny is married to his wife, Colleen, and has three sons and one daughter.
